About
Hey there. 👋
I’m Abdo1, and welcome to my little corner of the Web.
I’m an engineering leader and a mobile app developer. If you would like to know more about my professional work, you can check out my work website.
I call Toronto 🇨🇦 my home, a city I’ve come to appreciate for being the place where I met my better half. Originally, though, I’m from the Levant 🇱🇧🇸🇾 and visit my family back there whenever I get the chance.
We have a Tibetan Mastiff who is turning 10 this year!
I love playing video games, mostly on my PC. Growing up, I was so fascinated by them, that I wanted to make them, which is why I pursued a degree in Computer Science. I dabbled a bit in making my own indie game during my senior year but came to the conclusion that I’d much rather play them than make them. The most exciting thing for me was creating characters, from the initial sketch, to modelling, rigging, and finally animating.
That said, most nights I find myself winding down to a few rounds of Overwatch with my Gamer’s With Jobs community. I’m also a big fan of board games, but my wife’s the one who’s the expert on them in our household.
As for the rest of my spare time, I do enjoy reading, and I’m hoping to blog about the books more often. The occasional movie, as well as if there’s any good show or anime to binge. I find myself fascinated by really good storytelling, cinematography, and a musical score2.
Whenever I want to decompress, I am usually in the kitchen baking something. It could be croissants, breads, or pizza3. I’ve dabbled a bit in woodworking, and recently, I’ve been getting into 3D printing. There is something about creating physical objects that attracts me a lot into 3D printing. The face that I can use my 3D modelling skills I picked up during university and use in 3D printing is also a big win for me.
Other facts about me, is that I’ve had my fair share of adventures (and misadventures) riding motorcycles. I’m fascinated by urban planning and public transit. If not for remote work, I’d be biking and taking trains everywhere. I’m awed by nature and the great outdoors. Whenever we have the chance, we would take our dog (if he’s up for it) and go hike somewhere (bonus points up in the mountains).

Colophon
col·o·phon (kŏl′ə-fŏn″, -fən): an inscription at the end of a book or manuscript (or website) usually with facts about its production.
This website is built with Zola using the tabi theme, of which I customized to my liking. It’s currently hosted using Cloudflare Pages.
The font stack used on this site consists of Atkinson Hyperlegible for the bulk of the content, as I find it quite easy to read (hence the obvious name). For the titles and headings it’s a mix of the display font Cartridge that gives that 80s-90s video game vibe as well as Sora which I found pairs well with Atkinson Hyperlegible. Finally, if I ever have any code blocks I’m using Monolisa as the monospaced fonts, which, I think, is beautiful.
do as in dough like doughnut 🍩
It’s my go to music of choice whenever I’m working and need to focus. That or metal 🤘
as my wife put it the first time she tried it when we were dating: “F*ck! if this doesn’t work out, you’ve forever ruined pizza for me.”
